Among YouTube accounts, ran by teenagers, archiving obscure old bandcamp albums and mix CDs found at second-hand shops, there is an example of online-music preservation efforts I would like to bring light to–Tech Product Bangers.
An Adventure in Audio Archival
Tech Product Bangers, previously known as Ringtone Bangers, is a twitter account featuring and archiving ringtone compositions for old cellular devices, and now tech products more broadly. The account features video/audio posts of tones or ringtone music, sharing impressive songs from long forgotten consumer tech products. It can be fun to adventure through these audio files, and is a great archival project altogether.
Here is a link to the Twitter account. The ringtones uploaded can be found on their YouTube channel, of the same name, here. A google drive download link is also linked on their YouTube channel.
Music/Audio archival is an admirable effort by, often amateur, fans of the content they are archiving. Not only is Tech Product Bangers an exceptional archival project, but it also can be a form of entertainment, it can be exhilarating to listen to the candy-esque sounds of early 2000s ringtones, and might even inspire you to set one of the tones as your current ringtone on your more modern device. Happy exploring! If you wish to explore more old-cellphone related content, why not check out my article on a “girly”-inspired Japanese flip phone?
